UN AGENCIES

United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO)
UNESCO

UNEP partnered with UNESCO on the Youth and Lifestyles: ‘Is the Future yours?’ Survey in 2000, which engaged the youth on questions regarding sustainable management of the environment for a better future. UNEP also conducted a sustainable consumption campaign for youth entitled YouthXchange in conjunction with UNESCO.

United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT)
UNESCO

UNEP partnered with UN-Habitat and various organisations on the Kilimanjaro Initiative in March 2006, through UN Habitat's Safer Cities Programme. The main objective of the Kilimanjaro Initiative is to raise funds to support various crime prevention initiatives in Dar es Salaam and Nairobi, particularly for the youth. The initiative sponsored the youth participants on the climb, including crime victims and rehabilitated offenders. This initiative seeks to use sports as a tool for fighting crime and promoting development.

United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)
UNESCO

UNEP works closely with UNICEF especially on creating awareness on children’s environmental health issues through published material. It uses this unique opportunity to stress the mutually reinforcing goals of meeting the needs of children and managing the environmental challenges of the 21st century.

World Health Organization (WHO)
WHO

UNEP together with WHO have partnered to promote hygiene awareness and education to help reduce harmful environmental agents by increasing the youth’s knowledge and ability to protect themselves from environmental hazards.

United Nations Department for Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA)
UNESCO

UNEP partnered with UNDESA on the “Sports for Life Program” in October 2000, which was an initiative that sought to involve young people from developing countries in social and environmental activities. Both UNEP and UNDESA have been supporting sports initiatives among young people in the promotion of leadership in social and environmental fields.

PRIVATE ORGANIZATIONS

BAYER
BAYER

Bayer became the first private company to work with UNEP on environmental schemes for young people. Bayer provides support to promote environmental projects, which include among others photo competitions and painting competitions for young people.

VOLVO VOLVO

UNEP partners with VOLVO in the Volvo Adventure for young environmentalists, which is an award for young people between 10-16 years. The partnership also provides for projects linked to the Volvo Adventure Program.

CANON Inc

The UNEP International Photographic Competition on the Environment ‘Focus on Your world’ has been largely successful and is done in partnership with Canoncanon Incorporated. It encourages attention to our collective environmental plight through photographs.

NGO’S

The Scout Movement   WGGGS

UNEP partners with the Scout movement to develop joint activities in order to promote environmental activities and actions among members of the scout movement, including organizing public awareness campaigns and participating in environmental thematic days. On July 7th 2004, UNEP signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the World Organization of the Scout Movement, the largest youth organization in the world.

World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts  WGGGS

UNEP has worked with the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) for several decades to promote the involvement of WAGGGS' members on environmental issues. WAGGGS is an accredited member of the UNEP Governing Council and participates in several activities on the environment by UNEP.

Environment Online (ENO)ENO

UNEP signed a partnership M.O.U with ENO in February 2005. According to this agreement ENO and UNEP unite some activities like tree planting events and raise awareness on UNEP’s Thematic days (World water day, World Environment Day and so on). It involves participants and members between the 10-18 years of age.
